OBEN RORR - THE ELECTRIC BIKE

Oben Rorr is a new electric motorcycle in the market manufactured by Oben Electric Private Limited which is based in Bangalore. 

Oben Electric plans to bring in performance electric motorcycles and scooters along with the normal entry level electric motorcycles and scooters. The company plans to launch 2 products in the market every month and have its presence in all electric vehicles sector in the future.

Oben Rorr is the first model the company launched recently and it promises a range of 200 kms in a single charge and with a top speed of 100 kmph. 

Oben Rorr design has a neo retro theme which looks similar to Honda CB300R which also has a neo sports cafe theme especially with the round LED headlight, the sleek LED turn indicators and the forward tank design extensions. The rear has a sleek tail which makes it look as modern as its ICE counterparts. 

Oben Rorr comes in three color options which are Red and black, a complete black option and finally a yellow and black option. 

Oben Rorr comes with an LCD digital instrument cluster which displays key information. The Oben Rorr comes with smartphone connectivity with ride data analytics displayed on the dedicated app. But there is no turn by turn navigation present.

The company claims that the Oben Rorr manages to be lighter and more manageable than its competitors. The Oben Rorr has a kerb weight of 130 kgs and the seat height is 780mm but it doesn’t seem easy to flat foot on this bike completely as the side panels are slightly forcing the rider’s leg out. So we feel that a low height rider might find it difficult to flat foot. 

Oben Rorr has a ground clearance of 200mm which is good for Indian road conditions. The high ground clearance gives the electric motorcycle more leverage on all terrains. 

Oben Electric claims that its Oben Rorr model is India’s quickest motorcycle. Oben Rorr can go 0-40 kmph in 3 seconds.

Oben Rorr comes with a 4 kW PMSM motor with a peak power of 10 kW which is transferred to the rear wheel via a belt drive. The motor gets an IP65 rating. The motor gets a 3 year warranty.

Oben Rorr get three riding modes – ECO, CITY and HAVOC with top speeds 50 kmph, 70 kmph and 100 kmph respectively Switching between the riding modes can be controlled by the slider button on the right control on the handle. 

Oben Rorr has a 4.4 kWh Lithium-ion battery unit which is fixed and has a IDC range of 200 km. In the real world the bike can travel upto 150 kms, in CITY mode the bike can travel upto 120 kms and finally in the HAVOC mode the bike’s range is almost 100 kms. 

Oben Rorr battery charging time is around 2-3 hours with a 15 Amp socket. The battery gets an IP67 rating and has a warranty period of 3 years capped at 60000 kms.

The Oben Rorr battery is mounted on the tubular steel trellis frame which is suspended by a front telescopic fork and a preload adjusted monoshock.  The monoshock is good in this bike and we expect the Rorr to have a sportier suspension. 

The Oben Rorr comes with disc brakes, both at the front and rear and is equipped with a combined braking system (CBS). We prefer the bike also gets ABS as the company looks to promote Oben Rorr electric bike in the  performance category. 

The Oben Rorr is now available for purchase in nine cities in India. The ex-showroom price is Rs. 1,25,000/-

Depending on the state wise subsidies, this price can change. The booking of this bike has started from 15 March 2022. The test rides will be available from May 2022 and finally we expect the deliveries to start from July 2022.
